Flexible Care That Fits Your Life
Specialized Weekend & Evening Support for North Carolina
Recovery is more than just “talking” through the past—it’s about processing it so it no longer controls your future. As a dually licensed LCMHCA and LCAS, I specialize in the intersection of mental health and addiction, using EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to help clients heal from the underlying trauma that often fuels substance use.
I provide a specialized, clinical approach during the hours you are actually available:
- EMDR Therapy: A proven, evidence-based approach to processing trauma and reducing triggers.
- Dual Diagnosis Expertise: Integrated care for both mental health and addiction.
- Accessible Hours: Dedicated Evening and Saturday sessions for your convenience.
“You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.”
– C.S Lewis
Currently accepting Aetna, Cigna, Carelon Behavioral Health & Quest Behavioral Health plans
Other plans pending, I also provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement.
What I Offer
If you are feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or weighed down by things that feel bigger than you, you are not alone. Many people carry anxiety, trauma, or substance struggles quietly for years before reaching out. Counseling can help you regain clarity, confidence, and stability.
- Anxiety and Panic
- If your mind will not slow down, your body feels tense, or you live in constant what if thinking, therapy can help you regain calm and steady confidence.
- Trauma and unresolved past experiences
- When past experiences continue to shape your reactions, relationships, or sense of safety, we work at a pace that helps you process and move forward without feeling overwhelmed.
- Substance use concerns
- If alcohol or drugs have become a coping tool that is now creating consequences, I provide structured support to build healthier patterns and long-term stability.
- Depression and low motivation
- When everything feels heavy or numb, counseling can help you reconnect with purpose, energy, and direction.
- Life transitions
- Career shifts, relationship changes, or spiritual questions can leave you feeling uncertain. Therapy provides clarity and grounded decision making during change.
- Faith-integration if desired
- For those who desire it, Christian faith can be thoughtfully incorporated into the counseling process. Whether you want to incorporate prayer and scripture or simply want a therapist who understands your worldview, I follow your lead.
All services are provided through secure telehealth
About Me
I am Matthew Hartzog, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate and Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist with nearly a decade of counseling experience and a background in public service. I work primarily with adults and older adolescents who are navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, or patterns of substance use that feel difficult to overcome.
Many people seek counseling when they feel overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, or unsure how to move forward. My goal is to provide a steady, supportive space where you can begin making sense of what you have experienced and develop practical tools for lasting change.
I was raised in the Ashe County area and have a deep appreciation for the strengths and challenges that come with living in a rural community. This background helps me approach counseling with cultural sensitivity to local values, family systems, and faith traditions. My work integrates evidence-based clinical approaches with a respectful understanding of each person’s beliefs, helping clients move toward clarity, stability, and renewed hope.
